LJ Hooker and Rosies saddle-up for city’s streets
LJ Hooker’s Gold Coast offices have rallied together to assist the rising number of people living rough on the city’s streets. LJ Hooker has again partnered with Rosies to raise money for the branch service at the Gold Coast Turf Club’s Stakes Day on November 5. Last year, LJ Hooker’s Gold Coast offices raised $15,000 for the street service and was aiming to better the result this year.
“The number of homeless people living on the Gold Coast is increasing,’’ said Rosies Gold Coast branch coordinator, Wendy Coe. “I’ve definitely noticed an increase in numbers, especially in the last two years. There’s no one reason why someone becomes homeless: its drugs, it’s alcohol, it’s lack of affordable housing, it’s mental health issues – it’s just a huge problem.’’
Rosies General Manager Andrew O’Brien again thanked LJ Hooker for their fundraising efforts. “This is the second year LJ Hooker’s Gold Coast offices have come together to support Rosies,” he said.“It’s surprising how much a cup of coffee and a chat can do for the welfare of someone in need. It takes about $30 to enable a Rosies volunteer to have a chat and provide essential items such as a hygiene pack which is often the only Christmas present someone living on the streets will receive.“LJ Hooker is helping us restore some dignity for people that are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or simply lonely and doing it tough.”
